Ishaqzaade: A rugged love story
May 11th
孟買: At first glance, Habib Faisal’s “Ishaqzaade” has a lot going for it — there’s some great casting, good direction and performances. The milieu is different — arid, rugged, rural India and this is about feisty, gutsy lovers who are smart enough not to view the world through rose-tinted glasses.
‘Dark Shadows’ Review
May 11th
Screen Rant’s Ben Kendrick reviews Dark Shadows When moviegoers (and classic TV lovers) first heard that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp would be reuniting yet again for a “reboot” of the 1960s gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows , the response was mixed. Despite the pair of fan-favorite filmmakers, many Dark Shadows faithful protested the film for fear it would (stop me if you’ve heard this before) ruin their childhood (或, at the very least, undercut fond memories of the original show) – or rely too heavily on the, now trademark (and for some, tired) Burton/Depp schtick. 另一方面, plenty of movie-lovers were, nonetheless, excited for the project – as it could offer a fitting “return to (gothic) form” for Burton.

May 10th
Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy series director Guillermo del Toro has been working (in some capacity) on the Jim Henson Company’s 3D stop-motion retelling of Pinocchio since 2008. Back in February 2011, it was announced he would produce the film – which is based on a darker treatment of Carlo Collodi’s partly-serialized 19th century novel “The Adventures of Pinocchio” – that del Toro co-wrote, in collaboration with Gris Grimly (the short “Cannibal Flesh Riot”) and Matthew Robbins. The latter also co-penned del Toro’s Mimic and collaborated with the filmmaker on the script for the Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark remake.

Stylish 1940s atmosphere, a star-studded cast that includes Sean Penn owning the screen as a power-hungry crime boss – with Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling as the heads of a hard-boiled police unit, which is operating outside the law in order to take the mobster down – plus some creative set pieces (見: the theater shootout, featured in the trailer) and Emma Stone as a sultry femme fatale, to top it off? More of that, please
