Sharmine Narwani: Khaled Meshaal Interview: Hamas Chief Weighs In on Eve of Peace Talks
Sep 1st
With pundits in most capitals already predicting failure for the US-brokered Palestinian-Israeli peace talks to begin on Thursday, it seems only natural to start asking the question: “What’s next?” To get a jumpstart on what surely will be an onslaught of new, competing narratives vying for prominence in the post-peace process era, I headed to Damascus to talk to a man who has predicted the failure of this process from the start. And yet who — against all logic — has never been invited to sit at the negotiating table. Khaled Meshaal, head of Hamas’ political bureau, is an unassuming man who sauntered into our interview room unattended and chatted with me in English while we awaited his staff.
Cara Joy David: On the Verge of a New Fall Season
Aug 31st
Each year as August fades, I look forward to cooler weather and the start of the fall theater season. This year there was no big summer opening, so all the excitement is to come. Out of the upcoming musicals, the one I am most looking forward to is Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Doug Kendall: Celebrating the Women’s Vote Amendment in the Age of the Tea Party
Aug 27th
Today is Women’s Equality Day and the 90th anniversary of the effective date of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed equal political rights for women. It may seem unbelievable to many Americans today, but for most of this country’s history, women were denied the franchise in states across the country (some states allowed women to vote before ratification of the 19th Amendment, others did not)
Robert Reich: Forget a Double-Dip, We’re Still in One Long Big Dipper

Dave Johnson: Is It A Social Security OR A Deficit Commission?

Robert Reich: Greenspan, Rubin, and Herbert Hoover
Aug 9th
Herbert Hoover’s disciples are making noises even as America moves closer towards a double dip recession. Fed Chair Alan Greenspan tells the New York Times all the Bush tax cuts should expire as scheduled, even those that benefit the middle class and not the rich. His reason: the nation’s looming deficit requires it.
Richard (RJ) Eskow: Too Old to Rock ‘n’ Roll, Too Young to Die Ruin Social Security
Aug 7th
Don’t Fear the Boomers. Despite the scaremongers’ attempts to incite generational war, people born between 1946 and 1964 are not going to destroy Social Security.
AlaskaDispatch.com: Sarah Palin Isn’t Alaska’s First Feminist
Aug 7th
My fellow American journalists, I realize you have learned a lot about Alaska over the past couple of years, whether through getting to know our former governor, reading her ex-ex-ex-son-in-law-to-be’s Vanity Fair tell-all, or watching a lot of episodes of “Ice Road Truckers.” Maybe you even came up here for a few days during the post-nomination frenzy in 2008.

Tim Ellis: Trust and Solidarity
Aug 6th
This post from Matt Yglesias drives home one of the most important points currently facing the progressive movement. The Big Tent results in a fractious chorus of interests competing for attention and address.
HUFFPOST HILL – AUGUST 5TH, 2010
Aug 6th
On the last day of we’ll-deal-with-it-after-recess-palooza, the Senate decided to irrevocably tarnish American jurisprudence by confirming the nomination of a highly qualified Harvard Law dean to the Supreme Court. Elsewhere, a government panel confirmed that this year’s sweeping health care bill will keep Social Security afloat until 2029 (at which point, we imagine, the costs will be offset by death panels)
