HuffPost Radio: Left, Right & Center: Financial Regulation, Goldman’s Deal, And The Midterm Elections
Jul 17th
The Financial Regulation bill that passed has many flaws, chief among them, says Arianna, that it doesn’t prevent “too big to fail.” Tony and Bob agree for different reasons that “the people” lose, in that the lobbyists will get to make the rules. Is the Goldman Sachs settlement a real punishment or mere slap on the wrist

What We Have Here Is A Failure To Communicate, About Communications
Jul 17th
This is the kind of thing that tends to get me into fights with reporters, but as a general rule, I have little respect for political analysis that boils down the problems of elected officials as “communications problems.” Typically, politicians have struggles because of structural conditions. The prevailing force on the political fortunes of those in power is the massive unemployment crisis. The media has a hard time understanding this crisis because they live in a bubble and do not talk to actual unemployed people.

Obama Adm. Defends Hiring Of Ex-Health Insurance Exec To Oversee Reform
Jul 17th
The Obama administration is defending its hiring of a high-ranking Capitol Hill aide and former private health insurance vice president to oversee the implementation of health care reform after good government groups complained it violated the spirit of the president’s own ethics rules. This week, the White House hired Liz Fowler to serve as deputy director of the Office of Consumer Information and Oversight at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Obama Admin Praises Elizabeth Warren But States ‘There Are Other Candidates As Well’ To Lead CFPB
Jul 17th
Top Obama administration officials rushed to praise leading consumer advocate and bailout watchdog Elizabeth Warren on Friday as being “exceptionally well-qualified” to lead a new consumer protection office. But a senior adviser to Obama left open the possibility that she would not be chosen while administration officials did not deny a report that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner opposes her nomination. The Huffington Post reported Thursday that Geithner opposes Warren getting the nod to lead the new agency.

Coverage of Shahram Amiri’s departure from the United States and his return to Iran has focused, rather superficially, on the question of whether he was kidnapped or defected and then changed his mind.

Jul 16th
The Senate passed financial reform legislation that President Barack Obama will sign into law next Wednesday. This legislation will address many of the problems that led to the near total collapse of the American economy. This is the latest in an impressive list of successes by President Obama, which should be winning him praise from Americans and political pundits
Mitchell Bard: The Financial Regulation Vote Shows that While Americans Should Be Angry, the GOP Is not the Solution
Jul 16th
As the partisan cable networks breathlessly discuss what will happen in the midterm elections in November, there is much talk about how Americans are angry and, as a result, the Republicans are set for major gains in Congress. But the connection between these two assertions — Americans’ dissatisfaction and GOP success — strikes me as incredibly lazy, both by the media and the voters
Obama Maine Visit: First Family Heads To Acadia National Park Vacation
Jul 16th
WASHINGTON (Associated Press) – President Barack Obama and his family are heading off Friday for the weekend to a spectacular national park on the coast of Maine, no doubt hoping this latest jaunt doesn’t fall victim to the Obama family travel hex. That would be the one in which events seem to scramble the plans whenever Obama has his wife and daughters in the mix. In a mere 18 months on the job, Obama has rolled up an impressive record of diversions, interruptions, delays and outright cancellations of planned family travel — all thanks to the nonstop demands of a turbulent presidency.

Robert Creamer: Dirty Little Secrets the Republicans Don’t Want You to Know
Jul 14th
The Republicans have a set of dirty little (actually not so little) secrets they don’t what you to know – and certainly don’t want you to think about when you go to the polls in November. And the fact is that some of those secrets could provide Democrats with silver bullets this fall. But first let’s recall the context.
