John Bolton’s Revisionist History Of Iraq War Criticism
Sep 1st
Angry walrus and potential presidential candidate — who knows? — John Bolton has a piece in today’s Daily Beast , and it really is a dilly ! It’s all about how President Barack Obama’s stewardship of the Iraq War — which amounts to little more than adhering to the Status of Forces Agreement agreed to by former President George W. Bush in 2008 — will “wreck” Iraq

Saul Friedman: Obama and Jobs–He Should Look to FDR
Aug 29th
Judging by his record of job creation, which has been rather benign during the worst employment drought since the Great Depression, it should be clear by now that Barack Obama is no Franklin Roosevelt. Although he admires the Roosevelt legacy, he seems to have learned too little from history

WASHINGTON — Across the country, political ad spending is up and attack ads lead the way. Those who take the high road do so at their peril
Byron Williams: Feigning Patriotism in Order to Spew Un-American Rhetoric
Aug 23rd
I saw a photo last week of an angry protester opposing the proposed mosque near Ground Zero holding a sign that read: “You can build a mosque at Ground Zero when can I build a synagogue in Mecca.” It’s simplistic, and it appeals to most Americans’ basic sense of fairness, but ultimately it is a profoundly un-American statement. If we contrast the verbiage on the sign against the values that are embedded in the Constitution, there is no other logical conclusion one can reach. Building the proposed mosque near Ground Zero is the latest in a series of examples where individuals, who ought to know better, drape themselves in the American flag to advocate for un-American policies.
Christine Pelosi: Social Security Turns 75: Democrats Celebrate While Tea Party Republicans Grab the Ax
Aug 23rd
On the 75th birthday of Social Security, the American people got a choice from the two parties: Democrats resolved to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, while Tea Party Republicans urged an end to these vital programs as we know them. From speeches to rallies from sea to shining sea Democrats seized this moment to celebrate inter-generational compacts that secure our commitment to each other. I believe that Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid are as all-American as motherhood, baseball, and chocolate cake, so it was with pride that I stood this weekend at our Democratic National Committee meeting with my baby in one hand and policy paperwork in the other to argue for a resolution urging the President’s Fiscal Commission on the Deficit to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid Benefits
Obama Challenges GOP To Stop Blocking Rules That Would Limit Corporate Donations
Aug 22nd
VINEYARD HAVEN, Mass. (AP)– President Barack Obama says Republicans should join him in opposing a Supreme Court ruling that vastly increased how much corporations and unions can spend on campaign ads. Instead, the GOP wants to “keep the public in the dark” about who’s behind the expenditures, Obama charged in his weekly radio and Internet address, released Saturday as he vacationed on Martha’s Vineyard
Richard Greener: A Dagger To The Heart Of The Democratic Party – Once Bitten, Twice Shy
Aug 22nd
Barack Obama may have taken the literary triumphs of “Change We Can Believe In” and the stirringly inspirational, “We are the ones we have been waiting for” and turned both poignant sentiments into sharp daggers pointed right at the heart of the Democratic Party. Once bitten, twice shy
Geoffrey Dunn: John McCain Still Pallin’ Around with Lobbyists
Aug 21st
There is an air of both tragedy and farce as the Arizona Republican primary for the United States Senate comes to a conclusion this Tuesday. Incumbent John McCain–a venerated war hero and once celebrated presidential candidate–has been forced into the sludge against an unworthy opponent, J.D. Hayworth, in what is likely to be the final campaign of his political career.

Aug 21st
WASHINGTON — Federal campaign reports show that Democratic Party committees maintained a solid cash on hand advantage over their Republican counterparts as they entered the final three months before the election. The Republican National Committee raised only $5.5 million in July, compared to $11.6 million by the Democrats

Aug 20th
Despite political pronouncements from President Obama and key legislators early this year, immigration reform now seems to have slipped off of the Congressional agenda. As part of an ongoing series of interviews on the prospects for comprehensive immigration reform (CIR), I spoke with Marshall Fitz to explore the current context in the Beltway
