Mark Kirk’s Senate campaign reports that he raised $2.3 million dollars in the spring quarter, despite weathering a scandal that appeared to damage his campaign. Of that $2.3 million, the campaign says $1 million came in the month of June alone, a month in which continued revelations about exaggerations and embellishments of Kirk’s resume caused the Republican candidate to run from the press , literally and figuratively. I’ve noticed that people in my city no longer populate the roadways, corridors, highways and passageways as they used to. People are not traveling with the same frequency as before the great “Recession.” People’s purchase patterns differ also. Discount stores are experiencing a heyday, a renaissance, where patrons openly attend these establishments with a greater frequency and a more diminished embarrassment than before
Michael Rogers: [VIDEO] The Boys in Obama’s Pocket
Jun 29th
For a few moments last week, the President carried in his pocket a picture of two boys standing in front of the White House, the younger one with his arm thrown across his older brother’s shoulder. The boys are at the heart of a lawsuit that could — and should — end the ugliest anti-gay state law in the country: Florida law bans gay people from providing loving homes to children who would otherwise be without a family of their own. In a world where conservatives believe an underfunded orphanage bests a loving family with a same-sex relationship, it’s scary that they turned their archaic beliefs into law

crossposted on Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters The recent CNN special report Gary and Tony Have a Baby – about a gay couple seeking to adopt a child – is the subject of much discussion. While some in the lgbt community either praised it for showcasing lgbt families or criticized it for not enough diversity, some religious right leaders have been extremely negative with their comments. Such as Family Research Council’s Tony Perki ns: Equally tragic, one of the men said that no one has ever given him a reason why their lifestyle choice is harmful.
James Zogby: Abusing the Living and Dead
Jun 26th
I am not easily shocked. I’ve been doing this work for too many years and I’ve seen too much to become outraged by bad behavior or acts of indecency or inhumanity. But two stories that recently came across my desk were so disgraceful, and in some ways dangerous, that I feel compelled to write about them.
