How are you enjoying your Battlefield 3 experience at the moment? It has been a good while since we last spoke about some of the custom server issues that some of you have been facing and unfortunately, it appears to have taken a turn for the worse.

While some of you are clearly happy pouring money into EA’s rent a server program on console, it appears that many of you are not, particularly those who just want to enjoy the vanilla BF3 experience that you first enjoyed when buying the game last year.

All the official servers hosted by EA and DICE appear to have disappeared permanently, with the minimal official servers that were available all snapped up by those who can’t wait to set up their 2000 ticket Metro 24/7 server. If the zero availability of official servers wasn’t bad enough, there also seems to be a growing trend of skilled players getting kicked by admins who decide that they don’t want them playing on their servers any more.

I have seen this myself first hand in game and it is annoying I have to say. Being kicked for no reason is obviously very irritating, especially when you have racked up a good score only for it to mean nothing. If DICE are going to keep custom servers in the game permanently at the expense of official ones, then they really need to tweak some settings to keep everyone happy.

Firstly, there needs to be an option to report an admin more easily. By perhaps having a ‘rate an admin’ option at the end of the map, with the votes going directly to a regional moderation team who can take action. Obviously it doesn’t solve the problem initially when you’ve just been kicked, but at least it’s a way for DICE to identify admins who are on a power trip.

After the infamous tweaks to the tactical light and IRNV scope, are you a bit disappointed with the way the game has ended up? The Close Quarters expansion will probably divert attention from the ongoing issues when it releases this Summer, but we just hope that DICE are listening to the community, as the popularity of the game seems to have decreased after their latest patch update.

How is your experience with the game at the moment – are you a happy player with no problems, or have you been kicked for no good reason at times?

PS3 users have been crying out for a fully functional and easy to use web browser for years, but unfortunately Sony hasn’t delivered. The web browser remains pretty shocking and sadly, the browser on the PS Vita isn’t exactly amazing either.

For some reason, Sony has really struggled in this department. Navigating to simple websites on the PS3 such as Facebook remains a chore and it is an area that many users wish Sony spent a bit more time improving.

With that said, their efforts to improve the browser may be forced, as we’re hearing that Microsoft may be planning to finally bring a web browser to the Xbox 360. Not only that, but it could be compatible with the Kinect camera, meaning that Xbox 360 users can navigate through websites using voice and hand gestures only.

According to a Polygon insider, the Xbox 360 browser could end up being a modified version of Internet Explorer 9. Moans and groans aside, if it carries the same look as the Metro style UI dashboard, you can bet that Xbox 360 users will be all over it in a flash and we’re willing to bet that it will offer a better experience than that seen on the PS3 at the moment.

Don’t forget that the Xbox 360 now has Bing Search, so extending that functionality with an web browser is obviously a very logical progression for the system. It also comes on the back of rumors suggesting that the next-generation Xbox may feature a biometrics controller so it is certainly looking good for Xbox 360 owners in the years to come.

Sony on the other hand will need to step it up if Microsoft are indeed planning this step. Navigating through websites using a brightly colored wand isn’t an option, obviously, so perhaps Sony needs to give their web browser an entire UI makeover, adding various menu and website shortcuts to make the experience as simple as possible.

It’s highly unlikely that we’ll see Adobe Flash working on the PS3 to an extent that it matches desktop performance, but Sony could find ways around this – i.e HTML5. At the moment they seem to have given up on their web browser as if to say ‘ there it is, that’s all you’re getting’, but if Microsoft bring out a superior browser you can bet that it will give Sony a wake up call that they badly need.

Confusion as Avengers Battle for Earth not on PS3

If you have already watched the brilliant Avengers movie that is now showing around the globe, you were probably wondering – where is the usual video game to join the movie? Well, perhaps a little later than expected, it is Ubisoft that has now come out, and announced Avengers: Battle for Earth for a 2012 release – but not for the PS3 and PC.

You may be surprised about this, but it looks like this Avengers game will only be coming to the Xbox 360 and Wii U systems. Ubisoft’s Quebec division will be developing the game and it will be based on motion controls and will feature the Marvel Secret Invasion storyline from the comic books.

That means that it won’t feature the Chitauri Alien race that we saw in the film, but rather the Skrulls who you will probably be more familiar with if you have played games such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Although initial information from Ubisoft confirms the appearance of Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America, we may be seeing other familiar faces if Ubisoft follow the direct plot of the comic books.

In light of this, we may even see some of the X-Men in the game, as well as Spiderman himself and members of the Fantastic Four. It seems a bit adventurous that this is a motion control only game, but considering that previous Marvel games by SEGA didn’t do so well, there’s definitely no harm in trying a different formula.

It’s a little bit harsh on PC and PS3 owners though that there will be no version for these platforms. How hard would it have been to develop a PS Move version of the game as well we wonder? The game is expected to be out before the end of the year and we’re guessing that trailers and other information will be shown at E3 2012.

What are your thoughts on this? Did you expect this outcome for the first Avengers game since the movie?

First Assassin’s Creed 3 gameplay proves Ubisoft has hit stride

We have a treat for Assassin’s Creed fans now as almost unexpectedly, Ubisoft has come out and released the very first gameplay trailer for Assassin’s Creed 3. Just like all previous media shown for the game so game, it looks absolutely fantastic.

We’re happy that there appears to be a great feeling amongst the community with regards to the next Assassin’s Creed 3 રમત. Ubisoft may be trying hard to achieve the same amount of popularity with their Ghost Recon franchise, but it looks like they really have hit their stride with Assassin’s Creed 3.

So far we’re yet to see any negative reaction to the game, based on screenshots and the last trailer shown for the game. Now we get a first glimpse at actual gameplay graphics for the next title and it still looks top notch. Some of the close-up kills look really brutal and despite the fact that the game takes place during the American revolution, we see a short clip where Connor is basically free running through an apartment – it looks great.

It looks like Ubisoft won’t be holding back on the violence either, which will probably be very pleasing to Assassin’s Creed veterans. Be prepared for a lot of gruesome stealth kills using tomahawks, daggers and whatever else Connor can get hold of in that period of history.

Has there ever been more anticipation for an Assassin’s Creed game like we’re seeing here? As we mentioned above, it’s nice to see Ubisoft getting a bit of positive limelight for a change, especially after dodgy games such as the Michael Jackson Experience – sorry.

THQ trolling over Brock Lesnar in WWE 13

Brock Lesnar is currently bringing the pain in WWE at the moment, but his participation in WWE 13 may be under threat. If you have been tuning in to the show, you’ll know Brock Lesnar has ‘apparently’ quit, and THQ has decided to play on this by questioning if he’ll be included in the next addition of the popular game or not.

In the crazy world of WWE at the moment, it’s anything goes at the moment as far as Brock Lesnar is concerned. After becoming UFC heavyweight champion he now finds himself back in the WWE and most recently, in the company of his former manager too Paul Heyman.

You may remember that it was Heyman that first conducted the WWE 12 interview with Brock Lesnar, confirming his appearance in the game. Considering that Lesnar is thought to have a 12 month contract with WWE, it is a good possibility that he’ll be part of the WWE 13 roster as well, but just check out this Tweet by THQ.

After seeing the events on Monday Night RAW when Heyman informed the audience that Lesnar had ‘quit’, here’s what THQ’s Cory Ledesma had to say about it:

”There goes Brock Lesnar being in #WWE13. Hurry up and fire him in your #WWE12 Universe before he quits on you! ”

Before you get worried, this is mostly THQ teasing the audience in light of the current WWE storyline. It’s a good bet that Brock Lesnar will be a big part of the next WWE game and who knows, now that Paul Heyman is back we may see him joining forces with Lesnar in-game.

Face-Off, surprising new free MW3 DLC impresses

To say that Modern Warfare 3 players on Xbox 360 get treated a little better than those on PS3 and PC is an understatement. Even more so, when you find out what is coming next as part of the Content Collection 2 DLC pack this month.

We thought that Elite members on Xbox 360 would just be getting four new multiplayer maps to play, but Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer have gone one better than that. Starting from May 15, you’ll be able to play a new multiplayer mode called Face-Off, which pits you against your opponent in a 1Vs1 deathmatch in four brand new smaller designed maps to accomodate the new mode.

You can also play Face-Off with a friend in a 2v2 battle and it works via split-screen as well which is good. The four maps that are exclusive to the Face-Off mode are Erosion, Aground, Getaway and Lookout. How about this though – the first two Face-Off maps Aground and Erosion are actually free to download on May 15 and you don’t need an Elite subscription either. No Activision evil scheme going on here folks, it is a free download on Xbox 360 – no word on whether it will apply to PS3 and PC though, but we expect so.

Aside from the new Face-Off mode and maps, you’ll also be getting three new standard multiplayer maps on the Content Collection 2. Two of these you’ll already know as Sanctuary and Foundation since they are out on Elite, but the last is a brand new map called Oasis.

Finally, there’s another two new Spec Ops missions – Killswitch and Ironclad. The latter of which sounds the most exciting to us, as you’ll actually get to drive a tank and use its weapons which should put a smile on some of your faces.

That is a lot of content you have to say, and we’re pleasantly surprised about those two free Face-Off maps as well. The Content Collection releases on May 22nd on Xbox Live, but you can get it a week earlier on May 15 if you have an Elite subscription – the May 15 date still applies to everyone though regarding the two free Face-Off maps.

Microsoft patent realizes Xbox 720 controller dreams

While Nintendo were first to ‘raise the game’ so to speak in terms of unveiling next generation hardware, a recent patent filed by Microsoft could be an indication that great things are on the way to future Xbox ’720′ console owners.

Innovative is certainly going to be the key word for consumers as they look for brand new features in hardware and software that haven’t been seen yet. Nintendo’s Wii U touchscreen controller certainly fits this bracket, but Microsoft also have something huge in the pipeline and we could be seeing it in their next console.

The company has filed a patent for an Xbox controller which uses biometrics to identify users. In other words, the controller has the ability to scan data such as the length of your fingers, as well the firmness of your grip and send back the info to the console which will identify the person each time based on his or her biometric data.

It means that simply grasping the controller will allow you to sign in to Xbox Live straight away without the need of any button presses, and in our opinion – it’s a stroke of genius. Additional details over at TheVerge suggest that the patent also extends to Kinect as well, using biometrics to boot up Kinect games and profiles without the need of button presses.

It sounds fantastic doesn’t it? There’s no indication that this patent will be ready in time for the next console but we think we speak on behalf of everyone in saying that we hope so. These are the kinds of innovative features that the next generation console needs and it could turn out to be a major selling point for Microsoft. Does Sony have something similar in the pipeline, or will this end up being a Xbox ’720′ exclusive feature thanks to the patent? Not long to go until E3 2012 now – we can’t wait.

Contemplating GTA V release date boost with Bioshock Infinite delay

If you were looking forward to picking up Bioshock Infinite this year, we have some disappointing news to bring you. 2K Games has confirmed that the game has been delayed and will now release in early 2013 instead. On a more positive note though, analysts believe that this delay may pave the way for another major game to release in its place.

To the get the bad news out of the way, Bioshock Infinite will now be releasing on February 26 2013, instead of the original release planned in October this year. As with most delays, Irrational the developer has said that the game is need of some further tweaks and improvements, both of which will help to ensure that the finished product ends up being ‘extraordinary’.

Don’t forget that 2K Games is owned by Take-Two, who are also in charge of Rockstar Games and their Grand Theft Auto franchise. After the news broke out regarding the Bioshock Infinite delay, word has quickly spread that this may have a knock on effect on the hugely anticipated GTA V game.

At the moment, Rockstar has remained very quiet on GTA V info and we really haven’t had much to go on since they unveiled the trailer for the game way back in November last year. Analysts Wedbush Securities have said that we may now see an faster development time on Grand Theft Auto V, so that it is now ready for a release in October this year, in place of Bioshock Infinite.

Considering that many of you are expecting a 2013 release for Rockstar’s next GTA title, this will come as a big surprise if GTA V is ready for release in a matter of months. E3 2012 obviously holds all the answers at the moment, so it will be interesting to see what happens. Sony live stream of E3 2012 press conference going global

We’ve already told you that Sony will be holding their E3 2012 press conference on June 4th, but now we have some further good news. The company has announced that they will be providing a live stream of their keynote over the internet, ensuring that every PlayStation lover across the globe can tune in to the action.

If you really enjoy your live gaming events, there is no worse feeling that having to deal with a major announcement via a live blog. Nothing beats a live announcement right there on stage and we’re pleased to see that Sony will be opening up their E3 2012 event to the masses.

To show how eager they are, they have even started a countdown site now, on their official E3 portal here. Just to remind you once again, the show kicks off at 6PM PT, or 9PM Eastern Time – so 2AM for those of you tuning in from the UK. Just to point out that link above to the countdown is where the live stream will be shown, so it is probably a good idea to bookmark it in advance so you are prepared for when the event is just about to start.

For those wondering, you’ll also be able to watch the live stream directly from your PS3 browser as well. In previous years, you would have to watch E3 from the virtual Home space, but that isn’t the case this year. We would still recommend using your computer though, especially if the stream happens to go down half way through – plus the PS3 browser isn’t exactly up to the standards of Firefox, Chrome or Safari is it?

So there we have it, a nice confirmation of a live stream in advance – just what we hoped to hear. Let us know what you are expecting to see at the event, bearing in mind that it is highly unlikely that we won’t see any next generation hardware. Perhaps no expectations this year is a good thing?

Black Ops 2 setting ownership threatens release

We would love to bring you some new information on Black Ops 2 zombies, but in actual fact the latest news on the game will probably surprise you if you haven’t already heard. It has been suggested that the release of the game may be delayed, due to a clause in the Call of Duty contract related to Infinity Ward and their rights to titles released with a post-Vietnam setting.

If you have played previous Call of Duty titles, you’ll know that Infinity Ward usually handle the modern era style Call of Duty games, while Treyarch has focused on older settings in history for their games, like we saw in Black Ops and also in World at War before it.

With Black Ops 2, the game is now set in the year 2025 and it is a major adjustment for everyone after playing the first Black Ops game. You would have thought that there would be no problem with Treyarch adopting the futuristic approach with their new game, but according to documents revealed by GameInformer, Infinity Ward has exclusive rights to Call of Duty games set after Vietnam – if you can believe that.

The strange thing here, is that Actvision are obviously in the middle of both companies, but with Infinity Ward now under new direction after the major shake-up which resulted in two ex-leads leaving, this clause in the contract may be the moment when Activision’s ongoing legal dispute with the ex-leads takes another turn for the worse.

We’ve heard that in the worse case scenario that the game may even be delayed until this issue is sorted out, but we have a feeling that given the financial position that Activision are in – a cash settlement could be a way out of this. It is a remarkable read, so study the documentation if you are interested in finding out more.

Catch up again with new MW3 DLC maps on PS3

It is catch up time once again for Modern Warfare 3 owners on PS3 now, as Activision has confirmed that another two maps will be available for premium members this week, one month after releasing on Xbox 360.

Sanctuary and Foundation have been available on the Xbox 360 since April, but PS3 owners with a premium Call of Duty Elite subscription will be pleased to hear that you’ll finally be able to get your taste of the new maps on Thursday May 10.

June is set to be an even better month for PS3 owners, as four new maps are set to become available essentially coming in the form of a traditional map pack that used to be the norm with Modern Warfare 2. That also means that these maps will be available this month on Xbox 360.

Activision hasn’t given any details out on the new four maps, but we’re guessing that it won’t be long until we see another gameplay video from Rob Riggle demoing the new action with another humorous clip. If you need a reminder of what is in store for the rest of the year, you can head to the Elite Content Calendar here to refresh your memory – you can switch between Xbox 360 and PS3 using the tab at the top.

On a side note, it will be interesting to see how the DLC schedule will operate for Black Ops 2 once it releases in November. Will your Elite subscription carry over to free Black Ops 2 maps as well, or will Activision adopt a different strategy for Treyarch’s game? You would like to think that $50 a year will get you some free Black Ops 2 goodies as well – let’s wait and see.

Early MGS3 Snake Eater gameplay from Metal Gear PS Vita Collection

Earlier this week we spoke about the lack of games on the PS Vita, but the good news is that there are some great titles on the way for Sony’s new handheld that should breath a new lease of life back into the system.

One of these games is undoubtedly the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid HD Collection which is set to release at the end of June. The game will include full versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and it is the latter which we have some gameplay to show you.

Konami has generously provided an preview walkthrough of what you can expect to see when the Metal Gear Collection lands and we have to say that it looks like Konami has done a good job of not only bringing a PS3 game to the Vita, but enhancing it as well.

They emphasise that the team isn’t cutting corners with the collection just because it’s on a portable machine. All the original cutscenes are included with the game, while we finally get to see some of the unique touchscreen features that Konami has implemented into the collection as well. One example is being able to zoom into cutscenes at free will – it’s not overly amazing, but a very nice touch nevertheless.

Enjoy almost 10 minutes of unedited gameplay courtesy of Konami’s Kevin Vlaming below. Are you still planning to pick this up, or are you confused that the original Metal Gear Solid game isn’t included in this? It should at least come with a PSN download voucher if they couldn’t include it on the PS Vita card.

Japan gets Crystal White PS Vita, rest of world gets jealous

We have some great news for those of you who have managed to hold off from buying Sony’s PS Vita handheld. Fresh from Japan, the company has just confirmed that they will soon be unleashing a rather lovely looking Crystal White version of the device.

Obviously, it is going to be pretty iritating for those who already have the black model and like the look of Sony’s new color. Personally speaking, I have a white PS3 and a white PSP so this would have been a perfect addition to the collection – with a black 3G Vita though, there isn’t really any desire to own two systems.

For those that are interested and that should be a lot of you, you’ll be able to import one from Japan since it will go on sale on June 28th – right after Sony has wrapped up their E3 2012 proceedings. The price is the same as the standard versions, so expect to pay ¥29,980 (3G) or ¥24,980 (WiFi) if importing is definitely a viable route for you.

Aside from the lovely new color, Sony has also announced a few white accessories which will launch alongside their new version. A white pair of headphones will be available for ¥2,800, while the bundled cloth and carry case will be available in white as well.

Unfortunately and probably unsurprising to a lot of you, there’s no information at the moment on when the white version will be releasing in the US and Europe. We’re hoping that Sony will announce this directly at their E3 press conference, as it would be a travesty if this stayed exclusive to Japan.

While there is obviously a great deal of excitement over the incoming prospect of next generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft, one thing that many consumers are definitely not looking forward to is the increased price that the new technology is likely to command.

If you consider that Sony originally charged $499 for the 60GB PS3 back in 2006, it is a scary prospect to consider what they may demand for the PlayStation 4. Most recently, many people were not too happy with the $299 asking price for the PS Vita either, so with all the excitement to come on what kind of hardware we may see, it may well turn to horror once Sony and Microsoft finalize their pricing in the years to come.

However, there could be one amazing twist to this which Microsoft may have just given an insight to with a new strategy for their Xbox 360. The company has just revealed a $99 Xbox 360 console which is tied to a two-year monthly subscription to Xbox Live. In a similar way in which phone contracts work, US consumers will now have the convenience of picking up a console for next to nothing and then pay it off gradually with monthly payments of $15.

In reality, the total cost of $460 when adding all the monthly costs up is obviously greater than the standard $250 you would usually pay as well as a $120 two years subscription to Xbox Live gold that you would need as well. However, paying just $99 and $15 a month may seem like a much better deal in the long run for those that don’t have enough cash to pay in one go. Also, if the move turns out to be a glowing success for Microsoft, then don’t be surprised if we see a similar move for their next generation Xbox console either. It is very clever from Microsoft’s part you have to say.

Monthly installments are a great way to manage your overall bills and extending this with your home gaming console may prove to be a stroke of genius by Microsoft. Will Sony adopt a similar approach with their PS3? There may be additional barriers for Sony to overcome though if they go down this route as online gaming via the PlayStation Network still remains free compared to Xbox Live.

Put it this way – would you prefer to pay a monthly subscription with your next generation console combined with say a $150-200 one off fee for the console? Or would you just prefer the traditional method of paying one lump sum for everything? It is going to be interesting to see how well Microsoft’s new strategy performs – this could well phase one of their transition into next generation gaming on the Xbox.

Immense FIFA 13 graphics showcase Van Persie, Messi

We recently showed you the debut trailer for PES 2013, but now EA has followed up swiftly with their very first details on FIFA 13. As expected, there’s a collection of new gameplay features, but we’re also pleased to see a collection of screenshots as well which give you an idea of how graphics have improved since FIFA 12.

We thought FIFA 12 looked pretty good from a graphics point of view, but FIFA 13 looks even better. In the initial screenshots released, we see player models of the likes of Lionel Messi and Robin Van Persie and to say they look good is an understatement at the very least. In the shot of Van Persie specifically, we’re amazed at the sheer quality of Manchester City’s Yaya Toure in the background – you can even easily pick out Zabaleta in the distance too.

Obviously there’s no sign of actual pitch graphics yet, but we can’t wait after seeing these closeups. We remember Konami saying that they have ‘returned to their roots’ with PES 2013 in a basic attempt to bridge the growing gap between themselves and their EA rivals, but on this evidence, they are going to have their work cut out once again if they are going to top FIFA 13.

Thanks to some information posted to Neogaf, we also have some initial details on some new gameplay features you can expect to see. Five categories have been disclosed so far, and they are First Touch Control, Player Impact, Complete Dribble, Tactical Free-Kicks and Attacking AI. You can read about each aspect over at Neogaf but we’re interested to know what you all think of the new difficulty added to the game when receiving the ball. According to EA, it will now be more difficult to receive the ball and it all depends on the weight of the pass, the ball height and also the relevant technical ability of both passer and receiver to determine the outcome.

It sounds a lot like the ‘PES FirstControl’ gameplay feature that Konami has brought in to PES 2013, so it will be interesting to see which plays out better when the games are both out in the Autumn.
