If they infringe again during the second Test at Trent Bridge starting Friday, all-rounder Sammy could be banned from the third and final Test of the series at Edgbaston.

An International Cricket Council statement issued after close of play said match referee Roshan Mahanama of Sri Lanka had ruled the West Indies were four overs short of their target when time allowances were taken into consideration.

Under the ICC code of conduct, players are fined 10 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

Kimi, Sammy was fined 80 percent of his match fee while his players received 40 percent fines.

The ICC statement added: "If Sammy is found guilty of one more minor over-rate offence in Tests over the next 12 months, he will receive a one-match suspension as per the provisions of the ICC code of conduct."

West Indies  team at Lord s had no specialist spinner although Sammy said afterwards that occasional off-break bowler Marlon Samuels had been pressed into service in part to speed up the over-rate.

Protest of Pakistan Railways loco shed employees has entered 8th day. The workers observed 4-hour hunger strike and set up strike camp.

Pakistan Railways management moved the engines from the sheds to avoid trains delay. The engines of Ghauri Express and Jaffar Express bound for Faisalabad and Quetta were moved out of the sheds at 6am. 

Rail Mazdoor Ittehad leaders said that the management did not get the technical approval of the engines.

The loco shed employees announced to enforce wheel-jam strike from May 29 if the just demands of railway workers were not met.
 

Jorge Lorenzo mastered the rain-soaked Le Mans track to win the French Grand Prix for the third time on Sunday, with seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi overtaking Casey Stoner late on to take second place.

The Spaniard, who won here in 2009 and 2010, put in a masterful performance as he surged ahead from fourth place on the grid to beat Rossi by nearly 10 seconds and regain the overall lead from defending champion Stoner.

"Winning in France is fantastic. I kept my concentration because the turns were very slippery," Lorenzo said. "It was great to see all the fans here."

Rossi and Stoner, who will retire at the end of the season, were locked in a frantic battle for second in the pouring rain, with the Italian overtaking the Australian on the final lap to improve on his third-place finish last year.

"I wanted to do better than last year, so I tried to stay calm and then I pushed hard," Rossi said. "I m happy for all my team at Ducati to be on the podium."
Spaniard Dani Pedrosa finished fourth after starting from pole position.

In the overall standings, Lorenzo has 90 points after four races, with Stoner on 82 and Pedrosa third on 65. Rossi is sixth.
 

With Pakistan so far unwilling to reopen supply routes to Afghanistan, NATO faces a potential logistical nightmare as it prepares for a costly withdrawal of military hardware over the next two years.

In the run-up a NATO summit that opened Sunday, US and Pakistani officials had signaled growing optimism that a deal would be clinched on reopening the routes, which Islamabad had closed in November over a botched American air raid.

But negotiations stumbled over Pakistan s demand to charge several thousand dollars per truck, instead of the current rate of roughly $250.

A senior US official told AFP on Sunday the exponential hike in fees, reportedly as much as $5,000 per truck, was "unacceptable" and that Pakistan had failed to present a consistent, coherent negotiating position.

US officials have so far refused a demand from Islamabad for an explicit apology over the air strike that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

Since Pakistan shut the northwest border crossing to NATO about six months ago, the US-led force in Afghanistan has managed to endure the closure by relying on cargo flights and a more costly northern route through Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus.

The shift has carried a price, costing two and a half times more per container than the Pakistani route, according to US military officials.

But under NATO s plan to withdraw most of the 130,000-strong coalition force in Afghanistan by the end of 2014 — including a vast fleet of vehicles and equipment — the Pakistani route is considered crucial.

General William Fraser, head of US Transportation Command, told senators in February that the shorter Pakistan route was needed to ensure hardware could be withdrawn on schedule.

"With the amount of equipment we need to move… we need the Pakistan GLOC (ground line of communication) open," Fraser told the Senate Armed Services Committee in February.

Last year, before the Torkham gate border crossing was shut, the United States moved more than 35,000 shipping containers through Pakistan, according to Fraser.

In another complication for NATO s exit plan, countries along the northern route have approved the transit of military vehicles and supplies but have prohibited shipping weapons through their territories.

German Defense Minister Thomas De Maiziere, speaking to reporters in Chicago, acknowledged using the northern route was a "complicated process" because it passed through so many countries.

The most practical and inexpensive route into Afghanistan runs through Iran s port of Chabahar, but that is not an option given the long-running hostility between Iran and the United States.

For Pakistan, the border crossing is a valuable source of revenue and leverage that will dry up once NATO completes its planned departure in 2014.
 

During the previous hearing of the case held in Islamabad, the three-member headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has directed the FC and provincial government to produce the missing persons before the court.

The apex court during the previous hearing has also directed the agencies and provincial home ministry to submit a report about 48 missing persons.
 

Awami National Party’s (ANP) Senator Shahi Syed said that his party was willing to negotiate with all political parties, including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for the sake of restoring peace to Karachi.

He was addressing media after meeting with Sunni Tehreek (ST) chief Muhammad Sarwat Ejaz Qadri. Shahi Syed said that it was the responsibility of federal government to restore peace to Karachi.

Speaking on the occasion Sarwat Ejaz Qadri also said that he was ready to consult with all political parties, including the MQM and the Pakistan People’s Party, for bringing an end to the recurring violence in Karachi.

He said that foreign investment in Pakistan is decreasing due to wrong policies of Asif Ali Zardari while there is increase in joblessness and price hike in the country. Shah Mahmood said that both the major political parties have disappointed the masses.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari pressed the United States during a NATO meeting on Sunday to help find a "permanent solution" to US drone strikes that have fueled tensions between the two uneasy allies.

"The president said that Pakistan wanted to find a permanent solution to the drone issue as it not only violated our sovereignty but also inflamed public sentiments due to innocent civilian casualties," presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said in a statement.

The statement did not specify what such a solution might entail.

Zardari, in a meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, also called for the United States to do more to make amends for the deaths of 24 Pakistani soldiers killed in November by U.S. aircraft along the border with Afghanistan.
 

President Asif Ali Zardari and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai discussed post-NATO forces’ withdrawal from Afghanistan situation after 2014.

The two leaders, in a meeting on the sidelines of NATO’s Chicago conference on Afghanistan, exchanged views on the role of Pakistan for durable peace in Afghanistan. They also expressed the hope that the NATO Chicago moot would help bring peace in Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and the Pakistan Ambassador in the United States Sherry Rehman were also present during the meeting.

Meanwhile, US secretary of state for Foreign Affairs Hillary Clinton met President Asif Ali Zardari here and discussed with him Pak-US relations, NATO supply and Afghanistan situation.
 

Earlier, the Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in Islamabad on a 3-day visit to Pakistan. He was received by Federal Minister Nazar Muhammad Gondal at the Benazir International Airport.

Accompanied by the First Lady and other delegation-members‚ Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan is visiting Pakistan on the invitation of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.

The Turkish Prime Minister is scheduled to address joint parliamentary session today.

Hopes for a meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit bringing together the US, Afghan and Pakistani presidents appear to have dimmed, and analysts say this is due to the lack of a full agreement with Pakistan on reopening NATO supply lines into Afghanistan.

President Barack Obama met on Sunday in Chicago with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, but his schedule includes no one-on-one interaction with Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, and White House staff say the schedule is not expected to change.

Both US and Pakistani officials were pushing for a trilateral meeting, with the main roadblock to such talks being the drawn-out dispute that has curtailed NATO s ability to supply coalition forces fighting in Afghanistan.

Pakistan shut down the transit corridors that NATO used for supply convoys last November, after US airstrikes that mistakenly killed 24 Pakistani troops stationed near the Afghan border. The cross-border attack and its aftermath brought US-Pakistan relations to a new low.

Pakistan’s prime minister indicated last week that progress had been made in negotiations with US officials about reopening the supply routes, and he predicted an agreement would be complete “very soon.” NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen then called President Zardari to invite him to the Chicago summit.

Some South Asia experts suggest that while NATO s invitation to the president of Pakistan was unconditional, any interaction with the US president might not have been so.

President Zardari did meet with President Karzai and with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Chicago, about Pakistan’s role in regional peace and the end stages of NATO s involvement in Afghanistan.

The meeting between Mr. Zardari and Clinton lasted for over an hour. Others present included Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, Sherry Rehman, the U.S. ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter, and the US government s special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Marc Grossman.

Grossman told that the meeting included “a complete review of all of our bilateral partnerships.” He added that the purpose was to focus on “how to move forward in this relationship.”

The senior US envoy said the talks on Sunday will help with the ongoing negotiations over the NATO supply routes, and he played down the significance of the Obama-Karzai-Zardari meeting that did not take place, saying it would be "better" for Afghanistan and Pakistan to hold direct bilateral talks. 

Meanwhile, the meeting between Presidents Zardari and Karzai resulted in a decision to extend the Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement to countries in Central Asia.
 

United States and NATO officials say the North Atlantic alliance has no intention of intervening militarily to quell violence in Syria.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and U.S. Ambassador to NATO Ivo Daalder said members of the alliance continue to seek ways to pressure Syrian President Bashar Assad s regime so it abides by a peace plan brokered by special envoy Kofi Annan.

Last year, NATO conducted air strikes in Libya that helped topple strongman Moammar Gadhafi.

But Daalder said Syria was not discussed at Sunday s NATO meeting.

The Assad regime has continued shelling opposition centers, and an armed insurgency is targeting government installations.

U.S. Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes said the U.S. and its allies are assisting the Syrian opposition with diplomatic support and non-lethal aid.

Earlier, with a smile and a nod, President Obama kicked off the NATO summit by welcoming over delegates from 62 countries around the world to Chicago, the first U.S. city to hold the event outside of Washington, D.C.

Gathered under the brightly lit pavilion of McCormick Place, leaders and ministers convened to discuss a host of important issues — including the war on Afghanistan, continued cooperation on missile defense in Eastern Europe, as well as partnerships and potential threats that the alliance faces.

In a press conference before the official arrival of delegates, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen stated that the first day of the summit would focus on “security in an age of austerity,” including missile defense, and reaffirming partnerships that have been strained after more than a decade of coalition war in Afghanistan.

“Keeping NATO strong and capable in the 21st century is a central goal of the summit,” said the Secretary-General, “as today’s security challenges are global and they need global solutions.”

Discussions on the continued transfer of security responsibility to Afghan forces and the draw down of coalition forces from the country in 2014 are expected to be addressed at length on Monday, according to the Secretary-General.

When asked about Afghanistan, Rasmussen said, “Our strategy, goal, and timetable remained unchanged,” adding that NATO will “stay committed to our operation in Afghanistan, and continue to transfer lead responsibilities to the Afghans according to the 2010 plan.”

Rasmussen called for a “renewed culture of cooperation” among NATO member-states, in a time where budget cuts and austerity measures have curbed military spending in Europe while the U.S. shifts its attention to East Asia to in response to growing Chinese influence in the region.

President Obama and Secretary-General Rasmussen greeted heads of state and ministers as they arrived, posing for pictures on a red-carpeted stage adjacent to the massive circular conference table that symbolizes the equal partnerships that all NATO countries share.

Before beginning the bilateral talks, an opening moment of silence was observed and a military procession paid tribute to coalition soldiers who have fought and died for almost a decade in Afghanistan. Currently, 135,000 NATO personnel are deployed in coalition operations.

“For over 65 years, our alliance has been the bedrock of our common security, of freedom and of prosperity,” said President Obama. “And though the times may have changed, the fundamental reason for our alliance has not. Our nations are stronger and more prosperous when we stand together.”
 

Heavy rain caused Sunday s eagerly anticipated Rome Masters final between defending champion Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal to be postponed until Monday (today).

"The conditions for play are not suitable. The final is postponed until Monday at 1200 (1000GMT)," said tournament director Sergio Palmieri.

Earlier, the women s final had been interrupted for over two hours due to the rain before Maria Sharapova successfully defended her title by beating Li Na 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7/5).
 

Pakistan blocked the social networking website Twitter on Sunday because it refused to remove material considered offensive to Islam, said one of the country s top telecommunications officials.

The material was promoting a competition on Facebook to post images of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad, said Mohammad Yaseen, chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication’s Authority. Many Muslims regard depictions of the prophet, even favorable ones, as blasphemous.

Yaseen said Facebook agreed to address Pakistan’s concerns about the competition, but officials have failed to get Twitter to do the same.

A top court in Pakistan ordered a ban on Facebook in 2010 amid anger over a similar competition. The ban was lifted about two weeks later, after Facebook blocked the particular page in Pakistan.

The Pakistani government said at the time that it would continue to monitor other major websites for anti-Islamic links and content.
